The northern part of Småland has a lot to offer e.g. culture treasurers and a great nature. A visit to the beautiful Visingsö is a must. Families should not miss the High Chaparell or the production of “Polkagrisen” i.e. the famous Swedish candy stick made in Gränna, which are fun activities for the whole family.

Vättern is the next biggest lake in Sweden, and at the annually held Vätternrunden, more than 15,000 people cycle round the lake. Vättern is, however, also famous for its many fish for instance chars, pikes, trouts and cray fish.

Take the ferry to Vissingsö which offers a beautiful nature, nice beaches and a royal history. Here the first royal castle was built in the year 1100. You can pay a visit to the garden or the Temple yard, Tempelgården, but most of all you can go by bike all over the island and explore all the nice places at your own pace.

You can also go back to Jönköping by ferry. Here there are a lot of activities to choose from. On sunny days you can go to Tabergs Topp, which has an exquisite view from the top to almost all of Småland, but it is also possible to study flora from the Alps. Walk down the mountain and buy fresh fish at the harbour. You can go to the popular sights e.g. The Johan Bauers Museum or the former military area, Regiment A6, which is now one of the largest shopping centres in Sweden. Nearby you will also find the tropical house, Tropikhuset, with its many tropical species. In the water park Rosenlund, you can have an excitingly adventurous bath or just a swim. Enjoy a concert in one of the best concert halls in Scandinavia or visit the Wild Western inspired amusement park, High Chaparell where you can meet Indians, cowboys and trappers. You can also wash gold, go on horseback or just enjoy some of the shows, for instance, Lucky Luke and the Dalton brothers, the saloon show or the fantastic stuntmen from Mexico.

The area outside of Jönköping offers sights such as Gripenbergs Castle, a wooden castle built in 1663, which also contains a museum, Säby kirke, a stone church from the 13th century, or the Kleva mine which is one of the most beautiful mines in Sweden with its long tunnels and big rock caves. Boda Borg is fairy adventure and activity house with different activities for the whole family.

Do you recall the escapades of the Swedish literary character, Åsa Nisse? The surroundings are inspired by Vetlanda where you can also find the Sollinska house and gold wash in Ädelfors. You can keep all the gold you can find! In Värnamo the whole family can gather around the car, music and toy museum. You can walk around the old town in Eksjö, enjoying the old wooden houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and their charming irregular location. It is really a town worth seeing. Another place of interest in Eksjö is the cleft in the rocks, Skurugata, which is 800 metres long with rock walls on both sides up to 35 metres.

Stay in Gränna, an idyllic village, and watch the production of the traditional Swedish candy sticks called Polkagrise. Go for a walk through the nice village and along the harbour and see the ruined castle, Brahehus, with its magnificent view to Vättern. Huskvarna on the opposite side has been built around the Husqvarna factory, but even though it has a lot to offer. There is a hiking path starting at the big water fall and leading to Ebbes bruk, but also the more than 300 years old Smith’s town is worth visiting. Here you can walk among the different artisan and artist work shops and forges to see how they lived and worked in the previous century. You could also visit the Arosfort where you will be met with different challenges.
