Recommendations for future guests
What did you especially like about the holiday house?

About the area

About Nordvestsjælland

The western part of Sealand – Sealand, the biggest island of Denmark - is a very green piece of land. The landscape of this region is varied and offers a hilly landscape in Odsherred with gorgeous beaches in Sejerø Bugt (Bay) in the north, some totally flat landscapes of fat soil called Lammefiord and Åmose, and finally big forests near Sørø and beaches and cliffs at the Big Belt.

There are many old and cosy provincial towns and ports in West Sealand, and some of them are situated in the head of a pretty fiord. Furthermore there is a lot of small villages.

West Sealand has a long coastline, and at the Big Belt there are several fine and children friendly beaches with low water. Sejerø Bugt (Bay) and the Kattegat coast offer some of the best beaches with fine, white sand and dunes. At Isefiord you will find both coastal meadows and fine beaches with low water, and here you can always find a sheltered beach.

Odsherred is surrounded by the sea on 3 sides, and this is why the light is so special. When the weather is bright and sunny, you have fantastic views as far as the eye can see – for instance from Sjællands Odde to the entire Sejerø Bugt (Bay) and from Klintebjerg to the Kattegat Sea. The undulating landscape also contains many burial mounds and ancient monuments.

At Havnsø in Nekselø Bugt (bay) you will find Vesterlyng, which is the biggest moorland of Sealand. Vesterlyng is a nature reserve, but you are allowed to go for a swim from the fine beaches or to go for a walk wherever you wish. You can also visit the beautiful and hilly landscape of Røsnæs north of Kalundborg. A hiking path ending near to the lighthouse runs along the coastal line of tall cliffs. The point of Røsnæs is the westernmost point of Sealand with more annual hours of sun than most other places of Denmark.

The nature reserve called Hov Vig is to find east of Nykøbing Sealand. A bicycle and hiking path takes you through these fantastic wetlands with an important bird life which can be studied from a bird watching tower.

South of Sorø you will find the beautiful lakes of Tystrup-Bavelse situated in a wonderful, undulating landscape of manors with wide fields and forests and the largest stream of Sealand, Suså. You can enjoy fantastic views over both the lakes and the stream, which is very popular with canoe people and anglers, and since 2003 you can be lucky to find breeding white-tailed eagles here.

Rent a holiday home on Zealand - and enjoy a holiday filled with adventure on Denmark's largest island

You can choose from more than 400 holiday homes to rent on Zealand through DanCenter Holiday Home Rentals. Find a great selection of holiday homes in North Zealand, which is one of the most sought after holiday home areas on Zealand. Select the arrival date and check out what is available for the dates you need.

Zealand is Denmark's largest island and has something to offer for every taste. In addition to housing Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, Zealand has incredibly beautiful scenery that varies between large forests, hilly landscapes and fantastic bathing beaches. In addition, the island has numerous cosy market towns with historic buildings and many castles, mansions and fortifications that can be visited.

• In Odsherred in northwestern Zealand, the focus is on the sheer diversity of scenery in this area. Here, in the west you'll find hilly landscapes
facing the Samsø Belt, fantastic sandy beaches with large, sandy dunes to the north out to Hesselø Bay, and lush fjord landscapes in the east towards Isefjord. And on top of all this, it is also where you'll find Zealand's largest moor at Havnsø at the lower end of Nekselø Bay. Search under holiday homes in Roervig, Roenaes and Veddinge bakker, which are some of the well-known holiday home areas. At DanCenter Holiday Home Rentals, we're here to help you find the perfect holiday home for your holiday.

• In Northeast Zealand, you'll find Denmark's capital, Copenhagen. This city has more sights and attractions to see than you can possibly cram into one holiday! Both north and south of Copenhagen, there are large holiday home areas situated close to good bathing beaches, in Gilleleje and Raageleje in North Zealand. So you can combine your holiday in a holiday home with a city break in Copenhagen. In Northeast Zealand, you can also visit one of the many royal castles and fortresses that were built throughout the ages by Danish kings, including Kronborg Castle in Helsingør (or Elsinore in English), the setting for Shakespeare's play, Hamlet.

• In South West Zealand, there are many nice cosy towns you can visit such as Slagelse and Skælskør. In Skælskør, you can take a lovely trip on the fjord by boat, and in the town centre, you can see some of Denmark's most idyllic, historic buildings with half-timbered houses and inner courtyards paved with cobblestones. In Slagelse, you can go shopping in the city's pleasant pedestrian streets and shopping malls. In South West Zealand, you can also enjoy visiting one of the many historic castles, country estates or fortifications that dot the countryside.

Good beaches along the coast

There are good beaches to be found all over Zealand. The most well-known of them lie out to the Kattegat in North Zealand, like those at Hornbæk, Gilleleje and Liseleje. On Zealand's west and the east coasts, where the water is more calm, most of the good beaches are to be found along the bays. These include the beaches in Køge Bugt and Faxe Bugt on the east coast, and those in Sejerø Bugt and Musholm Bugt on the west coast.
