Sealand is Denmark’s biggest island with a lot to offer to the tourist. There is of course wonderful Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, but the whole island has fantastic and beautiful nature with hilly landscapes, big forests and inviting beaches, not to mention the many charming market towns with historical buildings and the big number of castles, palaces and manor houses.

The north western corner of the island called Odsherred is characterized by many different nature types. There are the beautiful hills in the western part facing Samsø Belt, the fantastic sandy beaches with tall dunes in the northern part facing Hesselø Bugt and the lush fiord landscapes to the east limited by the Isefiord. At Havnsø in the bottom of Nekselø Bugt (bay) you will find the largest heather area of Sealand.

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is situated on the eastern coast of Sealand. Here you will find so many landmarks and attractions that you will not be able to experience and visit just half of them during your holiday. Both north and south of Copenhagen there are big areas with holiday cottages near fine beaches, among others Gilleleje and Hornbæk in North Sealand. This means that you can easily combine your summer cottage holiday with a holiday in Copenhagen. In North Sealand there are many manor houses and castles founded by the Danish kings thoughout the ages. Among others, Kronborg Slot in Helsinore is to be mentioned – the place where Hamlet, Shakespeare’s famous play, is set.

In the south western part of Sealand you have a series of charming and interesting towns to visit. In Skælskør, for instance, you can go on a boat trip on the fiord, and the centre of the town offers the most idyllic atmosphere with its bumpy paving stone courtyards and old half timbered houses. In Slagelse you can go shopping in the inviting pedestrian streets and nice shopping centres. Furthermore this part of the island is also known for its castles, palaces and manor houses.

All over Sealand you will find beautiful beaches ideal for swimming and having fun in the water. The most famous ones are those situated in North Sealand, for instance at Hornbæk, Liseleje and Gilleleje. Along the western and eastern coasts the water is generally rather calm, and there are lovely beaches in the bays. Worth a visit are the beaches at Køge Bugt, Faxe Bugt on the east coast and Sejerø Bugt and Musholm Bugt on the west coast.
