Kvie Sø (lake) is located approx. 2 km north of Ansager in the western part of Jutland. Its surface is 30 ha, a rather big lake for the area.
Kvie Sø is circle shaped, generated by spring water and surrounded by wonderful nature. During summer Kvie Sø is “the bathing beach” of the area. The lake has shallow water, a sandy bottom and fine water quality and is extremely suited for the small children in particular. At the lake shore there is a play ground where the children can try their strength. You can walk around the lake by the so-called “heart paths” – hiking paths, approved by the Heart Association.
It is not allowed to go fishing in Kvie Sø, but in the neighbourhood you have Ansager Å and Varde Å (streams) as well as a number of fishing lakes, a true paradise for anglers. For the golf enthusiasts there are 7 different golf courses within a 30 minutes’drive from Kvie Sø. Ansager and Varde Å are perfect for a lovely nature experience in canoe. You must also try the Pandekagehuset at Kvie Sø where you can choose among 50 different dishes with pancakes – should be a Dutch tradition.
Kvie Sø is a perfect starting point for visiting great Danish tourist attractions such as Legoland and Givskud Zoo not far away from Kvie Sø. The oldest market town in Denmark is Ribe with its beautiful cathedral and Viking centre, worth a visit. If you are more interested in shopping or in art, you must visit Esbjerg, the “capital” of Western Jutland. It is only 45 minutes away by car.
Central Jutland is a place for connoisseurs – far from the sea and beach, but even though dominated by the water. In the middle of the peninsula the beautiful Silkeborg lakes delight everybody. From the Himmelbjerg (“Sky Mountain”) with its 147 metres you have a 360 degree view from the tower. On all the lakes and canals you see the canoes gliding by, and the happy fishing enthusiasts are thrilled to go fishing for fresh water fish in the Put and Take lakes.
This area may be far away from the sea and beach, but here you have lots of other ways to enjoy the water of the many canals, fiords and lake spread over the area. Enjoy the wonderful view when going on a trip on the paddle steamer on the Silkeborg Lakes or when taking the children to the Put and Take lakes for fishing.
If you choose to go on holiday in Central Jutland, do not miss Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. In this interesting city you will find many different cultural activities, shopping possibilities and exciting places to visit. You must also visit ARoS, a most interesting museum, and the world famous Aarhus Gamle By (Old Town of Aarhus).
