If you are looking for large areas and a wonderful genuine environment in central Södermanland, then Stora Smedby farm can be the place you want to holiday. The old alley leads to the large house where the road ahead is lined with lilac trees, roses and apple trees. The house, where you have the downstairs, is in its current construction from the 1930s and has typically large rooms that are excellent for wonderful socializing.
The kitchen is well equipped and spacious and is perfect for preparing everything from breakfast to good dinners. A large dining room with fireplace provides space for long and cozy dinners when the weather outdoors is not at its peak, adjacent to the dining room there is a cozy sofa group and TV. The house has three bedrooms as well as a bathroom and an extra toilet, everything guarantees a smooth and worry-free holiday. Sitting on the porch twig and drinking your morning coffee while the children rumble around on the lawn can give peace to all souls. On the spacious terrace outside the log cabin there is room for everyone, here you gather the family for cozy barbecue evenings. There are a couple of grills that give you room for creativity.
For the slightly larger party, there is a genuine log cabin available with four beds, a double bed in one part of the cottage and in the other part of the cottage there are two single beds. The cottage dates back to the 16th century with wonderfully wide floor tiles and charming beamed ceilings. As there is no water in the house, you are welcome to use the bathroom in the large house's basement with a separate entrance from the courtyard. There is electricity in the cottage but the house has no heating.
Pottskärsbadet is located about 3 km from Stora Smedby and here you swim from a small sandy beach with shallow water. On the other side of Kvicksundsbron is Sandabadet, which is also a bathing place with a sandy beach but in a larger format and has bathing jetties.
In the area around Stora Smedby there is much to discover. If you have younger children in the family, Sagostigen in Malmköping is a wonderful day trip, about 40 km to drive. Here you can visit Hans and Greta, Little Red Riding Hood and many other classic fairy tale characters. A visit to Parken Zoo in nearby Eskilstuna is within easy reach of Stora Smedby, about 15 minutes by car.
Södermanland consists of a beautiful archipelago, vigorous forests, large lakes, lively small towns and idyllic villages.
Here there are narrow roads with pretty wooden houses and green gardens with nice atmosphere which is peaceful for the soul. You will find a lot of soft forests paths, glittering water and wonderful archipelagos. Furthermore the landscape is characterized by castles, manors, hills and twisting small roads. The author, Selma Lagerlöf, often described Södermanland with the words “den sköna lustgården” i.e. the beautiful pleasure garden.
There are about 400 castles and manors in Södermanland, and many of them are open to the public.
For instance you could visit the famous Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred or the prime minister’s holiday home, Harpsund, where you can go for a walk in the beautiful garden.

Sweden has been admitted to UNESCO's list of world heritage for its unique coastline. Middle and north of Sweden have countless rivers, lakes and streams criss-crossing the country. Sometimes you get the feeling that the country is swimming with only forests and fields acting as links between rivers and lakes. This is particular noticeable for the middle part of Sweden where the ice age left plain tracks. Thousands of lakes fill the gorges created when the ice retracted to the North.
At the exact place where the river Mälaren with fresh water meets the salt water from the Baltic you will find Stockholm spread across 14 islands and islets. But there is more: The Stockholm skerries just a few minutes sailing from the capital is comprised by a total of 24.000 islands and islets.
The Siljan lake is located in the middle part of Sweden called Dalarna. The lake and the surrounding towns are regarded as the historical centre of the country. From here, Sweden gradually becomes more raw and deserted. In Norrland, the only sound you hear in the enormous forests is from the roaring rivers.
For centuries, the rivers have been used for transporting logs to the coast. And where the rivers flow into the ocean is where the first settlements were founded several thousands of years ago. Höga Kusten in the north-eastern Sweden is permitted on UNESCO's list of world heritage for its unique coastline.
Sweden has countless activities for children, young people and old people. It all starts when you book a holiday home or a cottage in Sweden, so the entire family has a god basis. Afterwards you have lots of room for social intercourse, fun and games as well as instructive activities for the entire family. This area is also known for its moose-safaris, a unique nature experience. Such an experience is a guarantee for talks when you return to the holiday home or cabin. Småland is also perfect for bike rides, horseback riding, canoeing and fishing.
If you have booked a holiday home in the middle or northern part of Sweden, you will find the landscape dominated by deep valleys, plateaus and vast fir and pine forests. Here you can bring your family berry and mushroom picking, enjoying the beautiful flowers in the spring or the may different colours of the leaves in the autumn. Take a refreshing dip in the forest lake and catch a fish for dinner. While the children play in these beautiful settings, mum and dad can prepare the freshly-caught fish in the open-concept kitchen and the grandparents can relax with a glass of wine on the sofa.
