About Schleswig-Flensburg

Holiday at the Baltic Sea and Schlei

The joy of swimming and pure relaxation – Gelting Bay and Kappeln/Olpenitz lie between the Flensburg Firth, the Baltic Sea and the Schlei Baltic inlet. This region offers especially good recreational value. At the outermost tip of the land, there is a huge nature reserve. Along the coast, which provides lots of beautiful beaches for swimming, picturesque holiday resorts and beautiful woodlands, there are numerous cycling and hiking trails you can follow.

Watersports at the Baltic Sea

This region is perfect for all water sports enthusiasts! With the Baltic Sea and the Schlei nearby, you can choose from two different bodies of water offering different conditions. Windsurfers and kite surfers in particular love the options they have here. Sailing can be done on the Schlei. The area is also home to various surf and sailing schools.

Holiday homes at Gelting Bay

DanCenter offers Scandinavian holiday homes suitable for up to 8 people only 50 m from the water on Gelting Bay. The beach is flat, meaning it therefore offers additional safety for small children. This location is particularly good for families. The holiday homes in Olpenitz are somewhat larger. These modern activity homes can accommodate up to 24 people! That means you can easily house multiple families, groups of friends or even a team. With a pool, sauna, whirlpool and other activities such as table tennis and a pool table, you won't get bored here.

Holiday with a dog at the Baltic Sea

We have a selection of holiday homes where your pet is welcome both at Gelting Bay and in Olpenitz. Your animal is part of the family and should therefore be part of your family holiday at the Baltic Sea. A holiday with a dog is no problem in our holiday homes and doesn't cost extra. What's more, it's easy to travel to the Baltic coast.

Holiday homes at the Baltic Sea

As well as holiday homes in the Gelting Bay/Olpenitz region, you can also spend your break at the Bay of Kiel or Lubeck Bay. Each region offers various holiday homes, different attractions and new locations. One thing they all have in common: a holiday by the Baltic Sea!

About Schleswig-Holstein

The Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast: mudflat walking and surfing

Schleswig-Holstein's North Sea coast offers an impressive natural landscape in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea national park. From the mouth of the elbe in the south to the Danish border in the north, these are the largest mudflats in the world. There are four islands in the Wadden Sea and around ten small Halligen islands. On the islands of Sylt, Amrum, Föhr and Pellworm you can find cosy holiday apartments and holiday homes where you can make yourself comfortable. Go mudflat walking, ideally with a tour guide, and walk across the tideland to one of the Halligen islands. Enjoy a traditional "Pharisäer" – coffee with rum.

Sankt Peter-Ording on the Eiderstedt peninsula boasts the longest beach in Germany, with a twelve kilometre-long and as much as two kilometer-wide beach. Run across the long bridge to the beach and take a look at the natural salt marshes on the coast. The beach's landmarks include pile houses, which are home to cafés, among other things. Kite surfers, surfers and other water sports enthusiasts will find the conditions perfect for their sport of choice. Have you ever tried land sailing or driving a kite buggy? On the beach at Sankt Peter, you have the chance to do just that. And families can look forward to mini golf courses at the beach promenade and a wave pool. On the Eiderstedt peninsula, you will find lots of comfortable holiday homes and holiday apartments. Rent a bike and discover the North Sea coast from your holiday home.

Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic coast also offers beautiful beaches, such as Schönberg Beach near Kiel or Timmendorf Beach near Lubeck. On the cycle path between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, you can traverse the state along the Kiel Canal. You can observe the ships that pass you by as you cycle along the canal. Visit Glücksburg moated castle with its impressive castle grounds and rose garden.

Take a tour on one of the tall ships and watch the sailing competition from out in the Bay of Kiel. In addition, more than 300 bands play across 16 stages. Enjoy the international market and try specialities form various countries. On the last Sunday in June, Kiel Week is traditionally concluded with a fireworks display. Kiel's Holstenstraße has pride of place as the oldest pedestrian zone in Germany. Visit the old Old Botanical Gardens with their sequoia trees. Both in Kiel and in Flensburg, you can find affordable and cosy holiday homes that will turn your holiday in Schleswig-Holstein into something very special.

Hikers will enjoy the nature park trail that connects the five nature parks Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic coast with one another. The flat landscape makes it particularly suitable for families with children as well. Nearby Lubeck is known for its UNESCO World Heritage protected old town, and the famous Holstentor gate. Enjoy the atmosphere in this old Hanseatic city and take a trip to Lauenburg Lakes nature park to see the many lakes and forests. From the tower of St Peter's church, you can get a great view of the city.

Each year, the Karl-May festival attracts countless visitors to the town of Bad Segeberg.
