“Fanø er en hyggelig ø, med gode spisesteder og smuk natur. / Huset mangler især nogle gode senge, de senge der på hemsen knirker når man vender sig. / Vandet fra bruseren løber ud på gulvet under håndvasken, selvom der tørres op, derved våde tær. / Flot ny terrasse, men ingen havemøbler. / Græsset var lige blevet klippet, derved kom der rigtig meget græs indendørs, bør samles op eller klippes oftere. / Der mangler et ekstra trin op til aneksen.”

About Fanø

Enjoy Fanø's lovely scenery during your holiday home vacation

Fanø is located in the middle of the Wadden Sea, just off Esbjerg. Fanø's unique nature is characterised by the Wadden Sea to the east, fantastic bathing beaches to the west and dune plantations in the centre of the island.

At the Wadden Sea on the east side of Fanø, you can see millions of migratory birds. Because of its unique location, the whole Wadden Sea region is an important "resting place" for waterfowl and wading birds in particular. On the east side of the island, you can also see a large number of seals that live in this area. The seals are easy to spot at low tide. Fanø's west coast consists of one long, beautiful sand beach of approx. 12 km. that is great for swimming. Here, you will find Fanø Bad, which is now a historic holiday resort with holiday home, hotel and holiday apartment accommodation for rent. In this area, you'll also find the first golf course that was built in Denmark, where Fanø Golf Club is now located. In Fanø's Dune Plantation in the middle of the island, the beautiful scenery alternates between open meadows and small lakes. The plantation has several marked hiking trails. On Fanø, there are also several excellent cycle paths, a good excuse to explore the island by bike.

The Fanø Experience - what to see and do

In the summer season, Fanø has plenty of activities and events to offer, including the Fanø summer concerts, which take place every Tuesday in July and August at Nordby Church. In June, they hold the annual Dragon Festival
which attracts many kite enthusiasts, and in mid-September they hold the Fanø Knitting Festival! In Sønderho, on the south side of Fanø, you'll find the Fanø Art Museum, which houses a permanent exhibition of paintings by local painters from the artist colony on Fanø.

When you spend your holiday on Fanø, you'll be surrounded by a wealth of attractions. This area really does have something for every taste. Within a short distance, you can visit The Fanø
Museum, The Bunker Safari, the sweetmaker's, a golf course or even go hiking across the mudflats! If you don't mind driving a little further, you can try out
some of Denmark's biggest amusement rides. Get close to the wildlife at Givskud Zoo, visit LEGOLAND® or go surfing in the North Sea.

If you rent a holiday home with DanCenter, you'll receive a discount on many of Denmark's most popular attractions - save up to 25% on the entrance ticket. Here you can see the attractions on which you get a discount, when you spend your holiday at a DanCenter holiday home.

About Vestjylland syd

South-west Jutland - Wadden Sea, oisters, seals and authentic island holidays

We begin at the sourt-west part of the country with the wide marsh land and the Wadden sea which is part of UNESCO's World Heritage List. A good way to experience the area is by walking the Wadden Sea or trying an oister or seal safari. Rømø is southernmost island of the Wadden Sea and it has some of the widest sandy beaches in Europe. North of Rømø, located across the sea from Denmark's oldest town Ribe, you will find Mandø, which is another of the natural gems of Denmark. And last, but not least, there is the old holiday island Fanø with its charming towns Nordby and Sønderho along with the magnificent beaches at Fanø Bad and Rindby Strand.

Ocean and fjord - popular beaches with endless horizons

Just a few kilometres north of Fanø you will find some of Denmark's most popular holiday areas like beads on a string. In Blåvand, Henne and Vejers you will find fantastic beaches and endless horizons. The towns are especially known for their beach life, shopping and large number of activities for children. On some of the beaches you can find remnants from the past in the abandoned bunkers from World War 2. In 2017, the Tirpitz Museum designed by the renowned designer Bjarke Ingels opened in Blåvand. The museum is a portal to the secret treasures of the west coast. And unlike the colossal and invasive cement bunkers the Tirpitz is open and beautifully integrated in the dunes.

On the islands Rømø, Mandø and Fanø you can experience the powerful Wadden Sea. Here nature has the power. It is for instance only possible to go to Mandø at low tide. The Wadden Sea has a unique and rich wild life with especially migrating birds feeding on their way south. On Fanø you can see a large number of seals. If you plan to visit one or more of the islands it is a good idea to bring your bike. The islands have bike trails leading you through the countryside. All 3 islands also have amazing beaches. In Esbjerg, the biggest town of the region, has a lot of cultural offers and fine shopping possibilities. Visit the Esbjerg Art Museum or the Esbjerg water tower, one of the landmarks of the town. You may also try a seal safari at the east coast of Fanø or go by boat to Horns Rev Havmøllepark, (offshore windmill park) one of the biggest of its kind in the world. From Esbjerg you can go by ferry to Fanø.
