In the area called Søhøjlandet you have great opportunities to spend an active nature holiday. Here you will find many of the largest forest areas in Denmark and an abundance of lakes and streams. That is why Søhøjlandet is a perfect place to go fishing, walking, biking or canoeing.
Silkeborg is the centre of the nature experiences in the Søhøjlandet. Go on a boat trip on the Silkeborg lakes or try a lovely walk or a bike ride in the surrounding forest areas. You may also “climb” the 147 metres to the top of the Himmelbjerget (Sky mountain).
In the same area you will find Gudenåen, a 176 kilometre long river and as such the longest stream in Danmark. In more places at the Gudenåen you can rent canoes. In Velling wood south of Silkeborg you will find Denmark’s largest growth of 250–300 year old beeches.
When you go on holiday in the Søhøjlandet, you must visit Randers and Aarhus, which is the second largest city in Denmark. In Randers you can go visiting Randers Regnskov (Randers rain forest) while Aarhus offers both ARoS, an interesting art museum, and Aarhus Gamle By (the Old Town of Aarhus) among many other cultural places to visit. Furthermore shopping in Århus is a really great pleasure.
Central Jutland is for connoisseurs – far from the sea and beach, but even though dominated by the water. In the middle of the peninsula the beautiful Silkeborg lakes delight everybody. From the Himmelbjerg (“Sky Mountain”) with its 147 metres you have a 360 degree view from the tower. On all the lakes and canals you see the canoes gliding by, and the happy fishing enthusiasts are thrilled to go fishing for fresh water fish in the Put and Take lakes.
This area may be far away from the sea and beach, but here you have lots of other ways to enjoy the water of the many canals, fiords and lake spread over the area. Enjoy the wonderful view when going by paddle steamer on the Silkeborg Lakes or when taking the children to the Put and Take lakes for fishing.
If you choose to go on holiday in Central Jutland, do not miss Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. In this interesting city you will find many different cultural activities, shopping possibilities and exciting places to visit. You must also visit ARoS, a most interesting museum, and the world famous Aarhus Gamle By (Old Town of Aarhus).
