| Once Upon a Time... |
| Throughout the nineteenfifties the car industry began to flourish, not least in Germany where the family cars began to roll. The increased mobility made it possible for many German families to go places, and with Denmark not far away and our attractive coasts with dunes, beaches, and sea water we became one of the first | destinations of the Germans' holidays. In the mid-fifties the Danish Tourist Board received the first inquiries for Danish holiday homes. | |
| Denmark´s First Holiday Home Agency |
 | As time went on the Danish Tourist Board had more inquiries than they could cope with. So in 1957 three people from a travel agency | were contacted who presently founded the firm the "Danish Central Office of Holiday Home Renting". Denmark's first holiday home agency was a reality. |
| The Development |
| During the first years the agency dealt with the renting out of Danish holiday homes for a number of tourist offices, but as the number of holiday homes increased, | the need for a more professional organization arose. In 1971 the 26-year-old Kurt Holmsted was | employed as manager to create that. Fifteen years later, in 1986, Kurt Holmsted had bought his own place of work, and at the same time the organization changedits name into: DanCenter A/S. |
| More Agencies |
| Rather over ten years after the establishment of the Danish Central Office of Holiday Home Renting another holiday home agency saw the light of day. | Ten years later number three followed and then number four. Quickly a lot of small, local offices were founded. | |
| Larger Demands on the Holiday Homes |
| Throughout the nineteeneighties the tourists' wish for an active holiday grew more than the unpredictable Danish summer weather could satisfy. Therefore high-quality holiday homes with better opportunities of indoor activities were developed. The great leap forward took place in 1985 when four luxurious holiday homes with indoor swimming-pools were built at the Jutlandish west coast. | The success was enormous, and soon the number of these homes increased. Today the holiday home agencies can offer about 2,000 luxurious holiday homes with swimming-pools. | After the pool houses a large number of whirlpool homes followed, e.g. holiday homes with Jacuzzis. The homes were constantly developed, and one can only guess what it may lead to. It is an established fact that the fairy tale which began with the first German families? longing dreams of beaches, dunes, and the sea has developed into a very important item in the Danish balance of payment. Today four of ten tourists stay overnight in a private holiday home.
And it´s absolutely true... |
